5 Common Laundry Stains and How to Remove Them Fast
Removing stains isn’t rocket science. With the right products and techniques, you can safely and effectively eliminate even the most stubborn stains from any material.
As the leading provider of same-day laundry services in Illinois, StarCrest Cleaners shares expert tips on removing these five common laundry stains:
1. Grass
It rsquo;s common to get grass stains from playing outside or doing landscaping maintenance. When this happens, allow the stain to dry out completely before washing or wetting it otherwise, the stain may spread further. Once dry, use a plastic spoon to gently scrape off the excess debris.
To treat the stain, you’ll need a solution of equal parts water and vinegar. Spray it on the fabric and then carefully rub out the stain. Water and vinegar will help saturate the mark. If the stain has not vanished entirely, apply diluted hydrogen peroxide to pre-treat the stain before machine washing.
2. Grease ;
Grease and cooking oil stains are going to require the use of colorless liquid dish soap. First, gently dab the stain with a paper towel to remove any remaining grease. Then apply a decent amount of dish soap to the stain and gently scrub the area. Let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing off the soap under running water.
If the stain persists, use enzymatic stain remover and let it rest for 15 minutes. Then wash the garment on a hot cycle to completely remove the stain.
3. Ink
Place a paper towel underneath the stain, then using a Q-tip apply rubbing alcohol directly to the stain. Let it sit for no more than 3 minutes. Blot excess ink with a paper towel, and observe if the stain is being transferred. Then rinse off with cold water and toss it in the wash on a regular cycle.
4. Bloodstains
Blood on delicate garments must be taken directly to the dry cleaner. DIY treatments may ruin the fabric.
For regular clothing, soak the item in cold water immediately. Gently rub the stain with your fingers to remove excess blood. If the water turns pink, replace it immediately. Continue rubbing until the stain lightens. Then rinse the garment well and pour liquid detergent over the stain. Let the stain saturate before washing.
5. Wine
There are several ways to remove wine stains
Pour cold water or club soda directly onto the stain then blot it using an absorbent cloth. Apply detergent onto the stain and carefully rub the fabric together. You can also use a soft-bristled toothbrush to ensure the detergent reaches the garment’s fibers. Let it sit for 5 minutes before rinsing with cold water and tossing the garment in the wash.
For light-colored clothes, combine dishwashing detergent and hydrogen peroxide. Pour the mixture over the stain and let it soak in. The stain should fade almost immediately. After a few minutes, wash the clothing normally.
