A Comprehensive Guide to Stain Removal
Ever experienced one of those days where nothing seems to be going right? You sleep through your alarm, there's no hot water left when you shower, and you just can't seem to find your keys. So, you turn to coffee to wake you up, but of course, you spill it on your pristine, light-colored shirt.
Fortunately, most stains can be removed and you can take back control of your eventful day. When days like these roll around, it's handy to know a few stain removal tricks.
As a provider of same-day laundry services, we take a lot of pride in delivering customer satisfaction by bringing back your clothes bright and stain-free. So below, we're sharing a few of our tried and tested tricks to remove different kinds of stubborn stains.
Say Bye to Beverage Stains
- Coffee/Tea Stain
First, blot the excess coffee or tea with a clean, dry cloth. Then, treat the stain by presoaking it in a solution of water, dishwashing detergent, and white vinegar. After 15 minutes, rinse the area with warm water then blot up any remaining stain.
- Juice Stain
Blot the excess juice with a clean, dry cloth. Then, apply a pretreatment solution made of white vinegar and dishwashing liquid. If that doesn't remove the stain, apply lemon juice on the stain and leave it under the sun to dry.
- Wine Stain
Blot the excess with a paper towel or dry cloth then cover the stain with salt. Let the salt soak in the wet fabric. As it dries, the salt particles should absorb the stain. If this doesn't work, try mixing hydrogen peroxide with dishwashing detergent and apply the solution to the stain.
Wash the Outdoor Stains Away
- Mud Stain
Scrape off as much of the stain as you can without letting it spread further. Apply laundry detergent with water directly onto the stained area, and then rub thoroughly. If this doesn't work, a water-vinegar solution will help lighten the stain
- Grass Stain
Mix two parts water and one part vinegar and apply the solution directly onto the stained parts. Then, use enzyme-based laundry detergent to remove the stain further.
Don't Let Other Stains Be a Bother
- Sweat Stain
Mix warm water with white vinegar and apply it on the shirt. As the fabric soaks, prepare another mixture, this time a paste-like solution consisting of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and salt. Apply it to the pretreated fabric and let it sit for about 20 minutes.
- Chocolate Stain
Rub dish soap on the stained area and soak the fabric in a bowl of cold water for at least half an hour. Repeat until you see the stain lighten.
- Lipstick Stain
Rubbing alcohol is a great tool for lipstick stain removal. Just take a cotton ball, dampen it with rubbing alcohol, and use it to blot the lipstick stain. Be careful not to rub the cotton ball because it might spread the stain. Once you're done blotting, rinse the area of the fabric with cool water.
- Gum
Rub an ice cube over the gum until it freezes or place the fabric inside the freezer for about 15 minutes. Once the gum is frozen, carefully scrape it off the fabric.
